My Philosophy

Everyone has the potential to live the life they want to live, but we’re sometimes distracted by what we think we should be doing, or what others expect of us. We may follow a series of paths that seem important at the time, but which don’t actually lead us any closer to the destination we really want. This can lead to anxiety and low mood, feeling lost and not knowing what to do next.

It is important to explore painful and distressing experiences, but whilst the past informs who we are, it is the present that will inform who we are to become. By building optimism for change and creating motivation for sustained improvements, therapy can open up choices, empowering us to become better able to adapt to new situations.

Madame Heim, 1926/27. Robert Delaunay

My Approach

My approach has been influenced and informed by a variety of approaches and theories, which include CBT, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, systemic therapy, solution focussed therapy and neurolinguistic programming (NLP). Having said that, I like to explore an individual’s creative potential, not by making assumptions or judgements or by adopting rigid theories or approaches, but by being curious and interested in how people think and behave.

Using a biopsychosocial approach, I also examine how any existing health conditions, genetic or inherited factors could explain how you came to be, to understand your relationship to yourself and others, to your environment and to the world.

As with many people, my own history and career have been defined by change and the need to adapt, sometimes before I felt ready to do so. This has led me to become curious about what motivates people to adapt to change, and how they go about acquiring the resources to do so. I am always seeking to learn and l am continually inspired by the people I meet.
